10 Crystals and Their Meanings for Protection, Calm, and Positive Energy
I began collecting stones as a child but those were mostly rocks I thought looked cool or interesting. I used to find a lot of fossils in stones along the train tracks, surprisingly. They were plant fossils. After moving across the country, I never found another one like it. It was an early learning experience about how different the landscapes are. The trees were different, the animals and insects were different. Also, it really felt like each place had it's own energy.
Now I take walks with my own kids and look for "cool" rocks with them. My personal collection is a lot more colorful than it was when I was a child. I've been collecting crystals and gemstones for some years now. But the rocks I found as a child hold a spot in my heart.
While this article doesn't cover every gemstone, it lists some of the best ones for protection, calm, and positive energy.

Obsidian is a volcanic glass crystal often connected with protection, grounding, and emotional release. Its deep black appearance gives it a strong and powerful presence.
An old professor of mine in college told me a story of a geologist he knew that was undergoing surgery and requested his cutting tools to be crafted from obsidian.
